Everyday Ethics and Moral Distress in Mental Health Services
In this training, participants will review the recurring ethical issues faced by case managers who work with people with severe mental illness, learn the definitions of "ethical dilemma" and "moral distress," and how to distinguish between them in practice, and lastly, through interactive case studies, gain experience in recognizing and resolving ethical concerns about boundaries, equity, and the gap between personal ideals and workplace realities.
Provider Wellbeing & Self-Care: Mindfulness-Based Self-Regulation
This training entails a discussion of key concepts involved in emotional and physical wellbeing, including emotional self-regulation, behavioral regulation, and mindfulness skills. The primary aim of mindfulness practice is to develop a receptive state of mind that interrupts habitual patterns of perception and reactivity, ultimately fostering clear perception and equanimity. The present training provides instruction in mindfulness training, an experiential mindfulness exercise, and a discussion about the application of mindfulness training to stress reduction. Provider Wellbeing & Self-Care: Practicing Self-Compassion
This training will highlight the core concepts of self-compassion (self-kindness, common humanity, and mindfulness), the research-based positive impacts of self-compassion, and what distinguishes self-compassion from other similar concepts. Participants will understand how to define "trying times" on an individual and systemic level, and how these difficult situations can impact our ability to support our wellbeing and the wellbeing of our clients. Participants will learn best practices for applying elements of self-compassion in these challenging scenarios.
Provider Wellbeing & Self-Care: Radical Acceptance
This training discusses the practice of radical acceptance, which is a distress tolerance and emotional regulation skill, as well as a component of reality acceptance from dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). The discussion will include the application of radical acceptance in coping with uncertainty, especially as it relates to experiences that many are faced with during the COVID-19 pandemic. The overall aim of the training is to provide an approach that supports provider wellbeing, and a skill that can be used and taught to clients.
